All local Little Leagues are required to conduct background checks on managers, coaches, board of directors members and any other persons, volunteers or hired workers, who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to, or contact with, players or teams.
Individuals are required to complete and submit a Little League Volunteer Application to their local league.
These checks are required to be processed each year.
1. The first time you submit a volunteer application, you must submit your social security number. The background check can't be processed without it. As soon as your background check has been processed, the social security number is automatically redacted from the form. Which is then stored securely by the Safety Officer and then shredded at the end of the season.
2. Subsequent years only require you to complete a RETURNING Volunteer Application, which is very short and doesn't require the social security number again. (If you would like to use the Returning Volunteer Application, contact [email protected], to confirm you are already in the system.)
Background checks are processed through the First Advantage National Crime file database which contains more than 350 million records which include criminal records and sex offender registry records across 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Little League does not allow individuals to work or volunteer who have been convicted or pled guilty to charges involving or against a minor, no matter where the offense occurred.
